I am taking Feminist Sociological Theory.. and I am loving it. Here is a quick posting that I did. Fire is a book called "The Fire this time".
Power is defined as the possession of controlling influence. Media monopolies in America have highly centralized base of power. Certain corporations own over 1/4 of the information an average person consumes. Not just television, but radio and Internet. This makes breaking out of the mass media information gates difficult. In Fire the authors state "this is precisely the power of journalism to write history, to silence some and to promote others"(p21) The silence of women's voices is deafening. This is why as not only as a consumer but a purveyor of independent media I was pleasantly surprised by the mentions of IMC or Independent Media Centers in Fire. IMCS break up the power structure of traditional journalism. IMC online sites promote an open source way of communicating information. This idea that you can become involved in the news, become an part in the organic process is revolutionary. Open source helps "flatten the hierarchy that exists by not separating the news reports from the passive audience" (p21) Just as zines did before open source, you are your own audience. You create, you critique, you learn. Because of this women from around the world can report on anything that effects them. They can share their view of the world around them in a safe environment with the whole world watching and particpating.

Yes I know I am all for equal rights and I believe we have those. Personally if you read the studies that woman are not better workers than men...they are correct. Can women do the same things as men...NO You should know that.
Once people realize that we are not the same...our brains do not work the same there is a HUGE difference in our work ethics and priorties and that that should be celebrated and utilized! But instead classes such as what you are taking are turning American youth such as yourself into man hatting bitches!
We were put on this Earth with our differences and once that is realized it can be used for the better! You didn't grow up in a home where women were put down and not as good. I know I grew up there too!
This subject is what is helping if not spearheading the breaking down of families in America. I know we didn't come from the ideal apple pie family. But damn it...it is shit like this that makes women leave the home, children left alone to fend for themselves and the prisons are over crowded and teen pregnancy is back on the rise.
Men don't put the pressure of women to be out in the workforce it is women of these types of groups. If you main "occupation" is being a mom then OMG you must be so bored and ignorant and how dare you have your husband keep you down like this. BULL SHIT!!! I for one choose to be home when my children get home from school....I choose to be the soccer mom so to speak, and you know who came up with that idiot phrase....Feminists!!!! Not men!

Apparently the myth that sisterhood is powerful is debunked. Women do not have equal rights in all aspects. There still exists a glass ceiling in corporation. There is also the division in the House and the Senate. Not to mention advert agencies still believe in order to be a woman one must be feminine and be a mother. Feminism does not preach sameness, it preaches equality. Feminism is not what causes women to leave their home. That is a personal choice and has nothing to do with political ideology. In the 21st century yes, you do chose to be a housewife. And feminism as a whole does not condone you o anyone one else for that. The politics of housework was a fight that was waged in the 80s. Feminist were looking back on the unfilled housewife, personified in The feminine Mystique by Friedman. The "American family" has changed a lot since then. Some for the better and some for the worse. And I hate to be a bitch, but men came up with the term soccer mom. It developed in 1996, by the political strategist for Bob Dole, and it stuck.

As for political gain...who the hell wants a woman as president. I don't want a pre or post menstral woman with the fate of the "free world" in her hands! It is not natural!
Women need to face it there are just some things we are not good at! When asked if you would rather have a women of 115 pounds pulling you our of a burning building or a man of the same stature most would say a man!
There isn't any more unequalness (if that is even a word) in this society than there needs to be. WE are not equal....people need to realize that!
And honestly the fight for equality ended a long time ago there are just some dried up old feminist that just won't let go of a fight they won!
They are directly responsible for the breaking down of family in this country. I am not saying that woman shouldn't work...hell we grew up with a mom that worked. not to say mom was great at juggling it but I do feel as if we did suffer somewhat because of it. And yet I see the analogy and realize that mom isn't the best example of the "soccer mom" vs "super mom" theory!
My whole point in this is...when people wake the hell up and realize that we are not equal and embrace that and utilize it that is when the world runs smoother.
