I used my last post to further demonstrate the pure beauracy of my school. They speak a totally different language from normal people. If your not deeply involved you have no idea what is being said. It it like Geertz Deep Play idea but with language. This week is midterms! Ahhhh. So much to do. Actually its starts on Thursday of this week and goes until the next Weds. I have about 80 pages to write total for all classes. We have to do reflections every week, one per class, I have been doing those, so now all I have to do is write my papers. One is about stereotypes in film the other forensic anthropology.
I can hear you thinking.... I didn't know you were taking a forensic anthropology course.
I'm not, the paper is for my Art and Lit of War class. I am discussing how forensic anthropology has helped uncover human right violations during civil wars, especially with Mayans, and Serbs.
This has nothing to do with what has been discussed in class, but it follows the themes of Mans inhumanities to Man and Ethics of War, that we briefly discussed.
I am taking a more technological approach, whereas most people are taking the emotional avenue. Which leads me to my next rant...
As many people know I have been with out a laptop since I've been here, which doesn't seem like a big deal most of the time. Recently however it has become almost impossible to do work with out one. I am doing huge amounts of research for my project "Ancient Religions contemporary Minds", both online and off. In the UK you can not photocopy more than 10 pages of any book. So if I want more than that I have to write it down, by hand, which takes forever. Typing would take awhile but it would save time, also I can only do research on my dorms computer when it is not being used.. Which ends up being in the middle of the night.
My grandmother is sending me money(yeah!!!) for a laptop here, I am shopping around. But if anyone knows anyone in the US that is selling one cheap, I can have her ship it to me. (Another weird thing about Britain, they import most of their computer supplies from the U.S so sometimes its cheaper to buy it in the US and pay outrageous shipping charges)
I am posting my papers on my livejournal site so if anyone is interested they can read them. I am using livejournal as a prototype for my digital portfolio. A portfolio is usually 10 pages per credit.. Which at the end of a semester adds up to a hefty 180 pages. If I can go digital I can save trees, save time and use multi media, i.e movie clips, animated pictures. At World Conference we discussed the possibility of such a radical idea, and it was well received. But for some reason I don't know if the older people knew what we were talking about excatly.......
