It is 9pm Boise time, 8pm Seattle time Tues, and noon on Friday in Japan it is also time for me to sleep. I have been stranded at the Seattle Airport little over 12 hours. My flight was delayed due to the strikes. I was told that I am going to be in Japan by 7pm Friday. I sure hope soJ. It has been a grand adventure of finding the best place to relax but not sleep. I have another layover in Detroit for 8 hours. I feel very gross because I have been lugging my backpack and carry on around all day. No matter how hard I try I can’t be an effortless flyer. You see those women that know how to pack well with the roller suitcases, hair perfectly in place, make up done. Blah. Here am me in my yoga pants, hair in frazzled pigtails and glasses. I feel like a sweaty tired lug. This could be due to the fact that I have been up since 7:45 Tuesday morning, so about 48 hours. I am looking forward to being at my dorm taking a long bath and finally sleeping...
But there is the issue of my baggage. Even though I was kicked off the plane, my baggage was not. I was told by Northwest that they would take care of it. Can you just imagine me trying to explain that I have lost bags in a country where I don’t speak the language? I could write down what I wanted to say on a little card, but all my Japanese stuff is in my suitcase.
But yet I will not let this deter my spirit, it has been a long road to get here, even at the Seattle airport. It is times like these that I realize that life is very much like saltwater taffy. Sometimes you pop that whole thing in your mouth and chew, but yet other times it gets pulled out until it becomes longer than you can imagine. But there is always an end, and it is always sweet.
